Juliana Kanyomozi has named Iryn Namubiru as the one Ugandan female artist she would be willing to share the stage with if she ever had to take part in a music battle.
Speaking in an interview on Galaxy TV, Juliana was asked to choose between Cindy Sanyu, Sheebah Karungi and Iryn Namubiru if she had no choice but to face another female musician in a music battle.
Juliana immediately picked Namubiru but stressed that she does not believe music should be treated as a competition.
According to Juliana, if she and Iryn were to perform together, it would not be about proving who is better. Instead, she said it would be an opportunity to celebrate their music, talent and contribution to Uganda’s entertainment industry.
“I don’t like the word battle. If it was Iryn and I on the same stage, it would be more of a celebration of music and artistry,” Juliana said.
The two singers share a long history in Uganda’s music industry. They first made a name for themselves as members of the popular girl group I-Jay before embarking on successful solo careers.
Their relationship later deteriorated following a fallout that kept them apart for years. However, they eventually resolved their differences and rekindled their friendship.
Their reconciliation was warmly received by fans, many of whom regard Juliana Kanyomozi and Iryn Namubiru as two of Uganda’s most accomplished and influential female musicians.
