Kampala’s end-of-month social calendar is set for a dose of Nigerian hip-hop nostalgia as Ice Prince Zamani heads to Uganda for his first performance in the country at the next edition of The Big Meeting, curated by The Singleton whisky at Thrones.
The Nigerian rapper, whose catalogue helped soundtrack the rise of Nigerian music across the continent in the early 2010s, will bring a collection of familiar hits to the gathering, including Oleku, Aboki, Shakara, VIP, Molowo and I Swear, among others.
Ice Prince emerged during a period when Nigerian artists were increasingly commanding audiences beyond their home market, helping establish the foundations for what would grow into Afrobeats’ continental and global reach. Alongside contemporaries such as 2Baba, Wizkid, Banky W and D’banj, he was part of a generation that expanded the reach of Nigerian pop and hip-hop, turning local hits into regional anthems. His BET Award win further cemented his place among the era’s notable African music stars.
His appearance at The Big Meeting offers Kampala audiences an opportunity to revisit a catalogue that defined a particular moment in African popular music, while bringing a celebrated name from Nigeria’s hip-hop scene into the city’s evolving daytime entertainment culture.
But music is only one part of what The Big Meeting has been building. Across previous editions, the gathering has combined dining, curated DJ sets, MC-led entertainment and the opportunity for guests to make their own cocktails, creating a social experience that moves beyond the conventional nightclub format. It is an approach that places as much emphasis on the company, the food and the atmosphere as it does on the music.
Curated by The Singleton, the gathering reflects the whisky brand’s broader association with food, music and shared experiences. Rather than centering the occasion solely on the drink, The Big Meeting brings these elements together in a setting where guests can explore cocktails, enjoy a meal, catch up with friends and spend an unhurried Sunday in good company.
“The Big Meeting has always been about bringing people together through the things they enjoy; good food, great music and memorable experiences. Having Ice Prince Zamani perform in Uganda for the first time adds another dimension to that experience, particularly for audiences who grew up with his music. For us, it is about creating moments people can connect with and remember long after the day is over. That is what The Singleton is about: savouring the moment and enjoying the experience in good company,” said Raymond Karama, Brand Manager for The Singleton.
The edition will be hosted by media personality Lynda Ddane, who will also celebrate her birthday on the day, adding a personal celebration to the occasion.
