The much-anticipated Season 5 of the Guinness-sponsored Ngo League officially kicked off yesterday at the league’s new home, Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere.

The league, which brings together alumni of Namilyango College every last Sunday of the month, returned with a bang, promising its most competitive season yet, featuring 20 teams all eyeing the coveted champion title.

Match Day One delivered on the hype, with standout performances from Vampino and The Double Trouble Revoluxion Band and fierce rivalries reigniting on the pitch.

Ba Musaayi Muto FC dominated the day, handing Gonyama FC their heaviest defeat on an opening day, with an emphatic 5-0 win. It was such a clinical finish with disciplined defending, and an aggressive approach that set the tone for the season.

Elsewhere, defending champions Los Bandidos suffered a surprise 1-2 loss to Kyayitiridde, while teams like Hornets, Dream Team, and Madiaba put on impressive displays, hinting at new strategies and styles of play as the league evolves.

“The energy this season is unmatched. With 20 teams, new strategies, and a state-of-the-art venue, we’re raising the bar. It’s going to be a season of passion and true community spirit,” said Tom Agaba, Chairman of Ngo League.

Speaking on behalf of the title sponsor, Denise Paula Nazzinda, Premium Beers Manager at Uganda Breweries Limited, reaffirmed Guinness’ continued support.

“Guinness is proud to continue partnering with the Ngo League. This league celebrates football passion and culture which are values that align with the Guinness spirit. Season 5 is already shaping up and is going to be unforgettable.”

Beyond football, the league is also making a difference off the pitch.

This season, the Ngo League has partnered with the Sickle Cell Mental Health Fund to run a CSR initiative aimed at raising sickle cell awareness and offering screening services to attendees, reinforcing the league’s commitment to community health and impact.
