KCCA eyeing scalp against African giants Esperance

Saturday Fixture: Saturday, July 28, 4 pm Namboole Stadium Live on Supersport 9

KCCA’s match against Esperance on Saturday is a revenge mission following the painful manner in which they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory at the Stade Olympique De Radès in Tunis last Tuesday, but it is also a survival mission because the Kasasiro boys must win at home if they are to sustain their hopes of making it into the next round against all odds.

Coach Mike Mutebi blamed the loss in Tunisia on the inexperience of his young team but he still picked out the high-intensity performance as one of the few positives in Tunis.

That performance certainly had the Tunisians giants rocked as KCCA raced into a 2-0 lead in the opening 22 minutes, only to be pegged back to 2-2 in the 12 minutes that followed.

To win Saturday’s game, therefore, the Kasasiro boys must show much better tactical awareness and determination to be able to press home their advantage and turn results in their favour.

KCCA may be placed rock bottom on three points, with Esperance leading the table with seven points, Al Ahly trailing on four points and Township Rollers placed third with the same number of points as KCCA but boasting a superior head to head.

Yet, for a team which has already claimed the scalp of Egypt’s and Africa’s biggest side, Al Ahly, another big win at Namboole is a genuine possibility. And KCCA know they need it.
