Justice Kenneth Kakuru has become an instant sensation after becoming the first judge of the Constitutional Court to annul not just the age limit amendment but also the MPs plan to extend their tenure from five to seven years.

While reading his ruling, Kakuru argued that MPs allocating themselves powers to extend their terms of office was like President Amin declaring himself life president.

“They can even abolish the Judiciary. They can say that their sons will take over their seats in Parliament,” he joked.

Although Justice Kakuru like the justices Barishaki and Musoke before him upheld the involvement of the army to break the chaos that ensued in Parliament during the age limit debate.

Kakuru further noted that the there wasn’t enough evidence that Ugandans participated in the amendments and thus, declared both the amendments null and void.

The ruling now henches on the rulings of Justice Remy Kasule and the Deputy Chief Justice, Awiny-Dollo.
