For many hip singers, rehearsing for a mega concert entails hiring some of the best choreographers to improve their dance moves. But for Iryn Namubiru, rehearsing for her upcoming concert entailed hunting down some of the best Kiganda traditional dancers in the land. Namubiru is set to hold a charity concert at The Kampala Serena Hotel on December 17. And for the past three weeks, Iryn has religiously attended Bakisimba dance lessons from a professional dancer by the name of Nalwadda and a drummer called Mulangira.

And it’s not because she Iryn never danced the traditional dance during her school days at Namasagali; the diva made it clear that she wants to be as professional as they come. “I am a perfectionist in most things I do. I love my country and I respect my culture; that’s why I decided to add the Bakisimba session on to my set for my upcoming concert. I am perfecting it and I am sure my fans will see what I am talking about come December 17,” Iryn told us. Proceeds from the concert will go to her charity fund, which supports a group of orphans and widows in her village in Mityana district.
