Singer Sheebah Karungi is one of those who think the culture of kneeling to greet both men and women should be abandoned.

Sheebah claimed that kneeling once cost her the chance to greet one of the well-known Ugandan women she most admires.

“One day I was hired to perform at a certain ceremony and one of the prominent women, who I admire most was at the event.

I can’t mention her name. But the point is that I really wanted to greet her but I feared people were going to change the narrative of the greeting to “She didn’t kneel down,” said Sheebah while speaking in an interview on a local YouTube channel.

Additionally, the singer asserted that greeting while kneeling does not signify respect.

“I have female workers at my home but I refused them to kneel before me. I always tell them that kneeling before anyone doesn’t mean respect,” she said.

However, the singer stated that the only time she is on her knees is when she is greeting her mother and praying to God.

Meanwhile, in 2018, Winnie Byanyima, the executive director of Oxfam International, came under fire on social media for a tweet that discouraged women from kneeling.
