“My assets are for my children, not Daniella,” Chameleone speaks out on ongoing divorce battle with his wife

A video of Jose Chameleone is making the rounds on social media as the singer publicly defends his decision not to hand over his properties to his wife, Daniella Atim, amid their ongoing custody and divorce battle.

In the clip, Chameleone stresses that while his assets belong to his children, he will not be pressured into relinquishing responsibility while still alive.

“My assets are for my children. They will also leave them for my grandchildren. I will not hand over the properties while I’m still alive, but they are the owners. The problem I am finding is that they want me to sign off on a will while I’m still alive,” he said.

The remarks come against the backdrop of Daniella Atim’s petition filed on 20 March 2025 at the Family Division of the High Court in Kampala, in which she is seeking divorce, custody of their five children, and ownership of the family’s Sseguku home.

Atim, who married Chameleone on 7 June 2008, accused the singer of desertion, claiming he abandoned her for five years and failed to provide the emotional support and compassion needed to sustain their marriage. She further cited distress and mild depression caused by his absence.

This is not her first attempt at legal redress. In April 2023, Atim issued a divorce notice accusing the celebrated musician of cruelty and infidelity.

Chameleone, however, disputes these claims. In his defence, he argues that his demanding career often kept him away from home but that he has always supported his family. He maintains that the family’s relocation to the United States in 2018 was a joint decision in search of a better life, and that he even bought a house there for Atim and the children.

He further accused Atim of using social media to air their private disputes, something he says has subjected him to psychological strain and even hospitalisation. Chameleone also insists the Sseguku property should remain a family home for their children in Uganda.

While he agrees to the dissolution of the marriage, Chameleone is opposing alimony, saying Atim is financially stable in the US. He instead seeks joint custody of their children and proposes shared responsibility for their upbringing.

The viral video has amplified public attention on the high-profile case, with Ugandans online debating issues of property, parental responsibility, and the strains of celebrity marriages.
