President Yoweri Museveni has appointed veteran journalist Alan Kasujja as the new Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre, according to a letter dated December 27, 2025.
The appointment was communicated in a letter addressed to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, following concerns raised about management challenges at the Media Centre.
“I have received your letter dated November 27, 2025, regarding the Media Centre. I was not aware of the ongoing manoeuvres,” Museveni wrote.
The President noted that Kasujja’s appointment had already been discussed earlier at senior leadership level.
“However, some weeks ago, we had discussed the idea of Alan Kasujja with you,” Museveni stated.
He added that he had instructed the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi, to immediately effect the appointment. In a further directive copied to the ICT ministry, Museveni ordered the formal commencement of the appointment process and the consideration of additional leadership positions at the Media Centre.
Kasujja replaces Ofwono Opondo, who resigned in April 2025 to pursue elective politics.
A seasoned broadcaster, Kasujja brings over 30 years of experience in journalism. He rose to prominence in the 1990s at Sanyu FM and Capital FM Uganda, before becoming a household name as the host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Uganda, a role he has held since 2011.
He later joined the BBC, where he spent 13 years as a senior presenter on the World Service’s Newsday programme and as host of the Africa Daily podcast. Kasujja left the BBC in August 2025. He also co-moderated Uganda’s 2016 presidential debate, the first of its kind in the country’s electoral history.
