Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said he has never ridden in a Rolls-Royce despite being President Yoweri Museveni’s son for more than five decades.
In a series of posts on his X account, formerly Twitter, Muhoozi said he also does not believe his father has ever used the luxury vehicle.
“I have been Mzee’s son for 52 years but I have never sat in a Rolls-Royce ever. I don’t think Mzee has sat in one either,” Muhoozi posted.
He added that leaders should focus on serving citizens rather than enriching themselves.
“Our job is to serve Ugandans, not ourselves. I cannot support corruption. I risked my life to make this country peaceful. Now that it is, it will not be taken by thieves. Never!” Muhoozi said.
The comments come days after reports emerged that Speaker of Parliament Anita Among had allegedly acquired a 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan said to be worth about £440,000 (approximately Shs2.2 billion).
According to reports by Daily Monitor, the luxury SUV was flown into Uganda from the United Kingdom through Albeit Limited, a company that previously handled the controversial procurement of luxury Mercedes-Benz vehicles for Parliament leaders in 2022.
The reports further indicated that the total cost of the vehicle could rise to nearly Shs4 billion after taxes, freight and clearance charges.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan is among the world’s most expensive luxury SUVs and is commonly owned by royalty, billionaires, celebrities and top athletes.
Daily Monitor also reported that Among confirmed during a conference call involving Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner General John Musinguzi Rujoki that the vehicle belonged to her.
However, the Speaker reportedly said the car was a birthday gift, despite her publicly known birthday falling in November.
According to the publication, URA officials said the vehicle attracted about Shs1.2 billion in taxes and that payment arrangements had been made in instalments.
Among reportedly dismissed the criticism surrounding the vehicle, saying her political opponents were exaggerating the issue to damage her reputation.
She also reportedly said that her senior bosses already knew about the vehicle and were aware of her love for cars.
