Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is set to establish its own radio station in a move aimed at strengthening communication with residents and improving access to information about the city’s programmes and services.

The proposed station, to be known as KCCA Radio, is expected to serve as the Authority’s official communication platform, providing regular updates on public services, development projects, policies and community initiatives.

Sources indicate that veteran media consultant Dr Joel Isabirye has been selected to lead the establishment of the station after emerging as the best-evaluated bidder in KCCA’s procurement process. Dr Isabirye was chosen from a field of nine media service providers that submitted bids for the project.

Currently, KCCA relies on partnerships with various radio and television stations, as well as digital platforms, to communicate with the public. However, officials believe operating its own radio station will enable the Authority to deliver information directly, more quickly and consistently to Kampala residents.

Once launched, KCCA Radio is expected to broadcast updates on a wide range of city issues, including road and infrastructure projects, revenue collection, sanitation, environmental management, public health, transport services and other programmes affecting residents.

Dr Isabirye brings decades of experience in Uganda’s broadcasting industry. He has played a key role in establishing and developing several leading radio and television stations, including Dembe FM and Beat FM, among others.

The planned station is expected to become a key platform for public engagement, allowing KCCA to keep city residents informed about its activities and service delivery.
