Opposition strongman Dr Kizza Besigye is ready to join a team of doctors handling the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking during an interview, Besigye said he wants to put to use his medical expertise to support the team if called upon.

“If my medical expertise is needed, I am willing to join even now,” Besigye said.

Besigye criticized Members of Parliament for allocating themselves Shs10 billion of the budget meant for fighting coronavirus. He said such money would have been used to pay medical workers who have put their lives to risk.

“Our medical workers have not yet been given Risk Allowances; many have no Personal protective equipment (PPE). Such money must be used to address the poor working conditions in the fight against COVID- 19 pandemic,” he said.

On why People’s Government has not handed over their donations to National Taskforce, Besigye said they cannot trust officials who already have records of mismanaging funds and items meant to benefit the population. He said his camp has structures that can reach all corners of the country and deliver relief.
