Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) President Moses Muhangi has shared his journey from a bar DeeJay (DJ) to heading one of the country’s most prominent sports organizations.

Speaking exclusively on NTV, Muhangi revealed that his passion for success guided him from his early days in Mbarara. Born to John Patrick Kapere and Nakawuka Florence, Muhangi is the eldest of seven siblings. Growing up, he dreamt of success without a clear career path.

After completing his Advanced-Level studies at Kitante High School in 2004, he ventured into deejaying in bars, earning Shs100,000 per night.

His academic pursuits led him to Makerere University in 2005, where he obtained a degree in Statistics in 2008.

Also, following his love for music, he journeyed to Jamaica in 2009 for a certificate in music production. This venture culminated in the establishment of Gong Records Ltd, now operating as a DJ school.

Muhangi’s public profile rose when he became the councillor for Kololo. Despite the challenges of being a young voice among older colleagues, he embraced the opportunity to represent his community.

In 2018, Muhangi assumed the presidency of UBF, a position he secured through unanimous decision.

“Within a year, I found myself dealing with around 15 court cases. The former head of the boxing club (Kenneth Gimugu) being a lawyer, always managed to initiate lawsuits. This prompted my decision to pursue a diploma in law, not necessarily to become an active lawyer for others but to equip myself with a better understanding of legal concepts,” he narrated.

Muhangi remains confident in expressing himself and encourages fellow administrators not to compromise in the face of injustice.

“I don’t compromise myself wherever I see injustice and my fellow administrators need to do the same if sports are to prosper. Don’t hide the truth because you fear the outcomes because at any moment truth shall prevail,” he says.
