John Tamale Mirundi (JT Mirundi), the eldest son of Tamale Mirundi, has said his father had only two official wives, but he had several other women with whom he had children.

Speaking in an interview after the requiem mass at Bunamwaya Catholic Church on Thursday, JT Mirundi explained that he has been the confidant of his father.

“He had only two official wives, and my mother, who is in London, is not one of them as she got married to another man. So, some of my siblings are not children of the two official wives, but we know them and take care of them,” said JT Mirundi.

In 2023, Tamale Mirundi bragged about having several wives and 81 children. JT Mirundi admits that his father had engaged in multiple relationships but says many of the relationships ended as he did not make them official.

Meanwhile, the late Tamale Mirundi’s brother, John Ssali, expressed his willingness to meet the Buganda Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, so that he can apologize to the Buganda Kingdom on behalf of his late brother. Tamale Mirundi, a political commentator and presidential advisor on media matters who died on August 13, had disagreements with several officials and often spoke against the kingdom.

Tamale’s body spent a night at one of his homes in Zana, along Entebbe Road. Today, the body will be transported to his second home in Kyengera for another mass. The body will then be transported to his ancestral village in Kalagala, Kaliisizo, Rakai District, where he will be laid to rest on Sunday, August 18.
