At least 50 bodies have been recovered by relief efforts in Bududa district after landslides washed away over five villages in Bakalisi sub-county following a heavy downpour on Thursday.

The district chairman, Wilson Watira, told Mbale-based Open Gate FM that the government has earmarked shs300,000 for each affected family to enable them to make proper burial arrangements

“Government has promised to give Shs300,000 to each family that lost their relatives to assist in burial arrangements,” Watira said.

According to sources on the ground, over 400 people are still unaccounted.

“They could either be trapped or have fled the villages when the calamity hit,” Watira added.
