The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has lived up to her word of not letting the burden of paying for Members of Parliament  data and social media tax be imposed on Ugandans.

Kadaga has today ordered the cancellation of Parliament’s contract with MTN Uganda, an arrangement where the telecom company was to wire fully paid-up monthly data with OTT worth Shs198 million to all the 458 MPs.

Speaker Kadaga: I told the Clerk to Parliament that the institution will not pay OTT for Members of Parliament, and there will be no further debate on the matter.#AskKadaga

The contract which was awarded to MTN last month attracted public criticism as Ugandans blamed MPs for attempting to exempt themselves from a tax they introduced.
