A Facebook post by Mukono Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze alleging that a one Doreen Magezi was dehumanized by a city labour export company when she was reportedly placed on a stall and sold to the highest bidder at $3,000 has attracted harsh criticism from labour circles.

Marphine International, a labour agency that took Magezi to Jordan has rubbished the MP’s claims as hearsay adding that Nambooze was only politicking when she alleged that the company was not registered and illegally operating.

According to Ruth Karungi, the company director, Marphine International has taken over 100 girls who are “happy” adding that Magezi was not arrested as the MP alleged.

“Magezi was only taken to record a statement so that we find out if she was tortured and follow up with our sister company in Jordan,” Karungi said.

Karungi told the media on Monday that by the time Hon. Nambooze posted the story on social media, she (Karungi) had already booked a ticket for Magezi however she missed the flight prompting her to book for her another flight.

“I am not a trafficker, my husband Henry never ordered for the arrest of anyone, he was not even in the country,” Karungi explained.

Karungi also presented WhatsApp screenshots that she claimed were chats between Magezi and her boyfriend.

According to the chat, her boyfriend was asking her to forge a reason so that she could be returned home.
