Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) have kicked off this morning across the country and the Police and officials from Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) are doing all they can to ensure that no form of malpractice is entertained.

In line of the above, Police carried out an operation yesterday and arrested over six people including head teachers, teachers, and some officials from the education sector who were already selling fake PLE exams. These were from the districts of Kampala, Masaka, Wakiso and Mukono.

The officer-in-charge of national examinations James Turyatemba, said that these were charging sums of money ranging from Shs400,000 to Shs10 million.

“By the time of their arrest, UNEB had not released any PLE to the field. These unethical people have been collecting large sums of money ranging from Shs400,000 to Shs10 million from various schools with a promise that they would deliver them the genuine UNEB examinations,” Turyatemba said.

Deputy police spokesperson Polly Namaye confirmed the arrests and said the number of those arrested is now 10, although she declined to name and the shame the schools they belong to in an effort not to victimize the candidates.
