Yesterday, Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) together with district education officials in Jinja arrested an invigilator who absconded from work and went to a nearby bar to drink alcohol.

The arrested is Byamukama Sam who was assigned to Kiira Primary school who according to reports was already drunk even before the exams started in the morning. He reported for duty in the morning and left to go booze even more only minutes after pupils started the morning mathematics exam.

“He entered the examination room and left with a mathematics paper in his backpack. We called the UNEB supervisors who asked him questions that he failed to answer because he was drunk,” Amina Mutesi, Jinja District Education Officer.

Mutesi said that these invigilators should always strive so hard to conduct themselves in a professional manner because such behaviour brings shame to the teachers, UNEB and the education sector as a whole.
