Yes, you read the title to this story right. There is racism in Uganda. In the past, we have heard reports of some Ugandan revellers being denied entry into some hangout spots in Kampala that are mostly frequented by whites, in their own country.

This kind of racism has extended to other sectors, as a Ugandan car rental service has been put on the spot for not renting out their cars to Ugandans or ‘blacks’, dealing exclusively with whites only.

The company that is doing this kind of discrimination is called ‘Uganda Self Drive’ managed by a one Mbaziira Sulayiman.

This came to light when a would-be customer complained on Twitter about how she was denied service by this company because of the colour of her skin, and they even had the guts to tell her that they would rent her the car only if she had a white husband.

One of our reporters called the company to confirm the claims and they truly said they only rent out cars to whites, and immediately hung up when asked why.

A recorded phone call with Uganda Self Drive.

It is quite sad to hear that a Ugandan company would deny a service to a fellow Ugandan with whom they share the same colour.

We strongly condemn these acts because we believe that everyone deserves the same treatment regardless of their colour, race, or gender.
