Police to arrest individuals found hosting house parties

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango has warned the public to desist from hosting house parties as the country is fighting COVID-19 pandemic.

Onyango says Police has received information that individuals around Kampala invite friends at their homes and hold parties.

“We have received intelligence information that there are people who are taking advantage of the curfew; they stock their drinks early and invite their friends for house parties on weekends. Then they leave at 6:30 am to go home,” Onyango said in a tweet.

He disclosed that Police will this weekend conduct operations where they will arrest whoever is found hosting a house party.

 “This weekend we are ready for the patrols. No more house parties,” he tweeted.

Three weeks ago, Uganda started on the phase of easing lockdown but bars and clubs are yet to be opened due to fear of pulling crowds that might accelerate the spread of coronavirus.

To date, Uganda has 833 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Additionally, 761 people have been so far discharged after recovering from the deadly virus. No single COVID-19-related death has been registered in the country so far.
