Police in Kyegegwa District have arrested two suspects over the killing of a 28-year-old woman, her one-year-old daughter and a 19-year-old domestic worker in Nkanja Sub-county.
The victims were identified as Christine Kansiime, her daughter Miracle, aged one year and three months, and Joan A, who worked as a domestic worker at Kansiime’s home in Karokalungi LC I, Kyamagaba Parish.
The three bodies were discovered on 8 October 2026 after a neighbour visited the home at about 1pm to check on the occupants. The neighbour alerted other residents, who subsequently informed the police.
According to Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West Regional Police spokesperson, investigators used a sniffer dog named Bruno to trace the movements of the suspected killer or killers.
Officers from Kyaka II Police Station responded to the scene, later joined by a team from Kyegegwa Central Police Station. Police said the scene had been preserved, allowing the dog to begin tracking a scent.
Bruno reportedly followed the trail to a corridor in Bwiliza Ndolobwile Village, where investigators recovered clothing belonging to one of the victims. The trail later led police to the home of a man identified as Bageza Tonesiti.
“Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident following the canine tracking exercise,” Twesige said.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the three deaths and gather evidence against those suspected of involvement.
Police said further inquiries were under way to identify everyone responsible for the killings and ensure they are brought to justice.
