Like father like son: Bebe’s dad Bidandi Ssali calls Bobi’s quest for Presidency a big joke

Senior citizen Jaberi Bidandi Ssali has weighed in on the chances of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine winning the 2021 elections as a big joke.

The 82-year old retired politician Bidandi Ssali, is father to Bobi Wine’s musical and of recent political nemesis Bebe Cool.

“I don’t want you to bring me quarrels with my son Bobi Wine,” he first said with a smirk, when asked about his opinion on the musician cum Parliamentarian being the strongest contender against President Yoweri Museveni come the 2021 elections.

“The issue of Bobi Wine being the leader of the country is one of the jokes you can tell,” Bidandi said in a recent interview.

“It is like a joke but my son (referring to Bobi) don’t worry,” he added as a disclaimer to avoid a war of words akin to the one his son Bebe Cool has with Bobi breaking out.

Bobi and Bebe Cool have been musical rivals for one and a half decades and when Bobi became a politician, leading the People Power pressure group, Bebe Cool formed Silent Majority, not to contest against Bobi, but to drum up support for President Museveni, especially among the youths.

Bidandi had a colourful political career as a long serving Nakawa MP and Local Government Minister. However, he bowed out of politics on a low note when he contested against Museveni in the 2011 elections. He only managed 32,000 votes (0.44 per cent) and his own son Bebe Cool was on the campaign trail for incumbent President Museveni who was declared winner with 5.4m (68.38 per cent).

Bidandi however hinted at President Museveni’s love for power saying that if he won the election, as long as Museveni was still around, he would immediately hand over the presidential seat to him.

“If I won the elections when Museveni is still in the country, I would tell my voters, thanks a lot but I have returned the Presidency to Museveni,” he said.
