Minister Baryomunsi: The court of public opinion already communicated on January 14 that Museveni is President

On Monday this week, the National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine directed his legal team to withdraw the election petition against President Yoweri Museveni’s victory in the 2021 polls and revealed he’s taking the matter to public court.

Minister of State for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Chris Baryomunsi has responded to Bobi Wine saying that the court of public opinion was communicated on January 14 when Museveni was declared winner by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Baryomunsi says that Bobi Wine might be inciting violence by advocating for another ‘illegal’ public court.

“Government will crash that. Majority of Ugandans wouldn’t want to return to violence but there’s a section of the opposition that are extremists,” says Baryomunsi.

He accuses Bobi Wine and his team of bringing “Katemba mu Kkooti” as they are politicising everything.

“Kyagulanyi and the team won a landmark case on how he acquired the National Unity Platform. It is unfair to say there is no democracy simply because what you want didn’t happen,” he says.

By press time today, Kyagulanyi’s legal team has already arrived at Supreme Court to file their withdrawal.
