“The regime can afford to deploy a police patrol at every roadblock but can’t buy enough ambulances,” Munyagwa questions Gov’t’s priorities in fight against COVID-19

Former Kawempe South legislator Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa has said that the problem with President Yoweri Museveni’s government is that they are uncoordinated from top to bottom.

According to Munyagwa, some of the guidelines that were issued by Museveni while easing lockdown last Friday clearly show that his government lost touch with what’s happening on the ground.

“We thought by the end of this lockdown, 5 million people in business centres like Kampala would be vaccinated. This government got the COVID-19 vaccine money early enough, but they weren’t just serious,” said Munyagwa.

Uganda has so far fully vaccinated 240,711 people against Covid-19, and about 700000 have received their first jab. Over the weekend, Uganda received 586,080 doses of COVID-19 vaccines. Government targets to vaccinate 22 million people before fully opening up.

Munyagwa believes that the country will soon be under lockdown again battling the third wave as government is getting its priorities in the fight against COVID-19 wrong.

“The country was opened without vaccinating people and doing mass testing,” said Munyagwa.

He added, “There have been up to 12 roadblocks on the road from Kampala to Masaka, up to 35 police vehicles but with zero ambulances.”
