Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has today lifted a nationwide curfew, which was instigated in March last year as one of the measures to help curb the spread of the coronavirus, with immediate effect.

“I hereby order & direct the nationwide dusk-dawn curfew to be vacated with immediate effect,” said Kenyatta.

Kenya’s nationwide curfew has been running from 10 pm-4 am.

Speaking during the celebration of a national public holiday, Kenyatta said infections had fallen, with the daily positivity rate dropping below 5% in the past two weeks.

Uganda is still observing the nationwide curfew that starts from 7 pm to 5:30 am. President Yoweri Museveni hinted at lifting the curfew after at least 4.8 people are vaccinated.
