Five suspects who were arrested together with jailed MPs Muhammad Ssegirinya (Kawmpe North) and Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West) in relation to the new spate of killings in the Masaka sub-region last year have pinned security operatives at the Chieftancy of Military Intelligence (CMI) for torturing them while in detention before forcing them to pin the two MPs.

On Friday, the two MPs who have been on remand for almost a year were produced at the International Crimes Division of the High Court in Kololo for the pre-trial of their murder cases.

While appearing before the court presided over by Justice Jane Elizabeth Alidviza, five suspects ( Jackson Kanyike, John Mugerwa, Bull Wamala, Mike Sserwadda, and Jude Muwonge) who were arrested together with MPs said that security operatives tortured them to pin the MPs.

Kanyike, one of the suspects, told the court that he had no evidence linking the two MPs. He claimed that he was tortured to the extent that he cannot sleep on both sides of his body.

Another suspect, Mike Sserwadda, complained of heart complications, saying he has never received treatment.

The state attorney asked the court to be given a few more days to share with the lawyers some of the remaining evidence.

Justice Jane Elizabeth Alidviza ordered the state attorney to make evidence available to all defence counsel led by Erias Lukwago before court resumes on August 11.
