Commander in Chief of the armed forces, President Yoweri Museveni has finally broken his silence about the shooting of State Minister for Labour, (Rtd) Col Charles Engola.

Engola was shot dead by his bodyguard, Pte Wilson Sabiiti at his home in Kyanja on Tuesday. Sabiiti also shot and injured the minister’s aide-de-camp (ADC) Lt Ronald Otim before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life. Otim is still nursing gunshot wounds at Mulago referral hospital.

Speaking about the issue through his official social media handles, Museveni said that the bodyguard killing the minister was a big crime to patriotism in Uganda.

“We would have hunted him to exact justice on him. Unfortunately, he took his own life; hence, we did not have that opportunity,” said Museveni.

Museveni further said that he awaits the conclusion of the investigation before he comments on the security of public officials and the mistakes they do.

Meanwhile, Museveni ordered the deceased minister to be accorded a state burial. He will be buried next week on Saturday, May 13 in Oyam.
