Police in Greater Bushenyi and Sheema District have apprehended two senior one students from St Charles Lwanga High School for issuing an anonymous terroristic threat targeting their school.

The suspects, identified as Mwesigye Innocent and Ayebare Benon, are currently in police custody.

The incident occurred on July 5 when the school’s leadership discovered an anonymous letter at the entrance of one of the classrooms. The letter contained threats of a terror attack not only against St Charles Lwanga High School but also against St Andrews Primary School and Kibingo Primary School in Kasese.

After an extensive investigation conducted in collaboration with the school, it was determined that Mwesigye Innocent, a 16-year-old senior one “c” student, had written the anonymous letter with assistance from his classmate Ayebare Amon, a 17-year-old senior one “A” student.

The motive behind their actions was to intimidate the school administration, as they had been reprimanded by the dormitory captain for disciplinary issues.

Both students confessed to their involvement in crafting the threatening letter. Additionally, a task team discovered an exercise book from which a page had been removed. This book, along with their specimen handwritings, will undergo analysis by a handwriting expert.

The two students will face charges of threatening violence and are likely to be remanded to a juvenile detention center following their court appearance.
