Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan Graces Cavendish University’s 13th Graduation at Speke Resort Munyonyo

Cavendish University Uganda held its 13th graduation ceremony at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo this Thursday August 3. A total of 707 graduands were awarded diplomas, bachelors and Masters degrees at the ceremony.

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who serves as the Chancellor of Cavendish University was one of the distinguished guests. In his keynote address, Jonathan praised the graduands for their hard work and dedication, stating, “You have emerged as leaders and innovators, ready to make a difference in the world after surpassing the high standards set by Cavendish University.”

Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of Information, Communications Technology, and National Guidance, also addressed the graduands, urging them to uphold ethical standards in their professions and to combat corruption in Uganda.

“Let us work together as a young team to build a corruption-free country and continent,” Dr. Baryomunsi emphasised. He also extended his congratulations to National Unity Platform  President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine who graduated with a law degree, hinting at his potential future role as Attorney General.

Justice Monica Kalyegira Mugenyi, the commencement speaker, challenged the graduates to embrace transformational leadership. “Our civic space desperately needs men and women who will not take from their countries but give back; who will not mislead their communities but guide them with integrity,” she asserted.

Cavendish University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Olive Sabiiti took the opportunity to announce the introduction of three new innovation-driven academic programs aimed at meeting global tech demands. The new programs include a Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, a Diploma in Data Science and Analytics, and an Advanced Diploma in Health Leadership and Management. “These programs reflect our commitment to staying relevant in a rapidly evolving world,” Dr. Sabiiti noted.

The ceremony also celebrated the top achievers of the Class of 2024, with Osekeny Luka, Ssenyondo Rowena Tiffany, and Tombong Jawo being recognized as the best students. Brenda Biku led Bobi Wine’s class with an impressive 3.90 CGPA.
