Speke Resort Munyonyo, Uganda’s premier lakeside conference destination, is set to host the Midterm Review Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministers of Foreign Affairs from 13th to 16th October 2025.

The event, themed “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence,” will bring together ministers, senior diplomats, and representatives from NAM Member States, Observer Countries, and international organisations for high-level discussions on global peace, development, and cooperation.

The upcoming meeting follows Uganda’s successful hosting of the 19th NAM Summit of Heads of State and Government in January 2024, also held at Speke Resort Munyonyo. The venue has since established itself as the region’s top choice for major international conferences, combining world-class facilities with scenic views of Lake Victoria.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, preparations for the October meeting are in advanced stages, with government agencies and resort management working closely to ensure a seamless experience for all delegates.

The discussions will review progress made since the 2024 summit and address pressing global challenges, including the role of NAM in a divided world, reforms in global governance, and the promotion of multilateralism.

Key agenda items will include the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, with member states expected to reaffirm their support for international law, humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the implementation of UN General Assembly resolutions.

The meeting will also highlight global inequality, sustainable development, and the demand for fair representation of developing countries—particularly African nations—within international decision-making structures like the UN Security Council.

Uganda’s leadership of NAM under President Yoweri Museveni will take centre stage, with delegates expected to commend his continued efforts to promote unity and strengthen the Movement’s relevance in addressing global challenges.

As part of the conference logistics, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that traffic control measures will be implemented around the Munyonyo area to facilitate the movement of delegates and ensure security during the event.

Beyond its political significance, the meeting shows Speke Resort Munyonyo’s growing stature as a premier hub for international diplomacy. The resort features East and Central Africa’s largest conference halls, luxury accommodation, and modern amenities including the Calabash Spa and Salon, Speke Gym, and an Olympic-standard swimming pool. Its combination of comfort, elegance, and state-of-the-art facilities makes it an ideal venue for hosting world leaders and high-level policy dialogues.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to fostering dialogue and cooperation among developing nations, describing the Midterm Review as “a milestone in consolidating the country’s leadership of the Non-Aligned Movement.”

With preparations nearing completion, Speke Resort Munyonyo once again takes centre stage as Uganda welcomes the world to deliberate on the future of global cooperation and shared prosperity.
