Lujja Tabula, the prime suspect in the murder of Ndiga clan head Engineer Daniel Bbosa, has recorded an extrajudicial statement, reportedly confessing to being the mastermind behind the murder of the clan head.
An extrajudicial statement is made by a suspect before a magistrate to narrate his or her role in the commission of an alleged crime.
Tabula made the statement on Friday at Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court, where he was brought under tight security by operatives from the Crime Intelligence Directorate.
He spent more than an hour before the chief magistrate, and no one was allowed in the magistrate’s chamber while the suspect made the statement.
He was later driven back to police cells, from where he is expected to be presented before the court and charged formally next week.
He will be added to the other five suspects, including Noah Lujja, 21, accused of pulling the trigger on February 25, Harriet Nakiguli, 40, Joseph Nakabale, 47, Ezra Mayanja, and Milly Naluwenda, 46, a Buganda traditional court clerk, who are currently on remand.
On Wednesday, state prosecutors told the court that investigations into the case were complete after the arrest of the prime suspect, noting that the file is ready to be committed to the High Court for the trial of the suspects to begin.
