Police in Kampala have launched an investigation into a daring robbery where armed thugs attacked two Fortebet betting centers in Nateete on Monday, making away with an unspecified amount of money.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incidents occurred at around 11:30 AM along the Nateete-Ndeba Road.

“It is alleged that a group of thugs armed with pangas first attacked a Fortebet outlet along Nateete-Ndeba road and robbed an unspecified amount of cash. They then proceeded to another Fortebet branch at Nateete Business Center on the same road and carried out a similar robbery,” Owoyesigyire stated.

As the robbers carried out their attacks, Nateete Police were alerted and dispatched a response team. Upon their arrival at the scene, one of the suspects, identified as Benard Kayongo Nadumba, attempted to flee.

“While trying to escape, Nadumba was shot by police in an attempt to neutralize him. He was arrested and rushed to Mulago Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead,” Owoyesigyire confirmed.

The other suspects managed to escape with the stolen money, but police have intensified efforts to track them down.

A case of aggravated robbery has been registered, and witnesses have provided statements to assist in the investigation. Additionally, police ICT teams are working to retrieve CCTV footage from both crime scenes to identify the culprits and piece together the events.
