Erias Lukwago to appear in court over treason-related charges

The Soroti High Court has sentenced David Okello, 34, to 55 years in prison for rape and robbery.

Presiding over the case, Resident Judge Boniface Wamala condemned Okello’s actions as “terrifying and unlawful,” stating that the suspect’s conduct traumatized the victim—his 40-year-old aunt—who was forced to flee naked in front of her children after he forcibly took her clothes.

Despite Okello’s plea for leniency on account of health complications, the court ruled based on solid evidence presented by the prosecution.

The incident occurred on November 18, 2020, in Apokor Village, Soroti Subcounty, where Okello reportedly raped, assaulted, and stole Shs30,000 from the victim.

A medical report confirmed injuries consistent with both physical and sexual assault.

In his ruling, the judge stated that the sentence should serve as a stern warning to society to deter such heinous acts.

He emphasized that Okello’s actions were “terrifying and unlawful,” and therefore warranted the lengthy sentence.
