A 30-year-old woman in Kenya has reported her husband to authorities after a domestic disagreement over 300 Kenyan shillings (approximately Shs8,500) escalated into physical violence.

Scholastica Jeptoo, a mother of two, told police that her husband, Abel Keter, assaulted her after the two argued over how to spend the modest sum. Jeptoo had intended to use the money to buy food for their children, while Keter reportedly insisted on using it for alcohol.

To resolve the disagreement, the couple agreed to split the money—Keter suggested Jeptoo accompany him to a bar where she would buy him a drink worth KSh150, and use the rest for food. However, once at the bar, Keter allegedly changed his mind and demanded the full amount. When Jeptoo pleaded with a waitress to divide the money, citing their hungry children at home, Keter reportedly attacked her, punching and slapping her in the face until patrons intervened.

Despite apologizing afterward, Keter allegedly assaulted her again once they returned home. Fearing further violence, Jeptoo handed over the money, but Keter then tried to drag her back to the bar. On the way, she encountered police officers on patrol and reported the assault.

Keter was arrested and later arraigned in court, where he denied the charges. He was released on a cash bail of KSh30,000 (about Shs 850,000).
