Police have released an audio recording of the prime suspect in the murder of David Mutaaga and Deborah Florence Mutaaga, an elderly couple who had recently returned to Uganda after living in Zurich, Switzerland for over 30 years.

The 24-second audio, accompanied by a blurry video clip shared by the police, shows a man wearing a black shirt, maroon sweatpants, and a mask, holding an object in his hand.

In the audio, the man is heard angrily telling the victim that although he (the suspect) did not attend school, the victim’s children have received an education. He then orders the victim to go to the hospital before calling out to the victim’s wife to come and assist her husband.

Speaking to journalists during the weekly security briefing at police headquarters in Naguru, police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma urged anyone who recognises the suspect’s voice to come forward and assist in identifying him.

He also announced a reward of Shs 50 million for any information leading to the suspect’s arrest.

The couple was found murdered at their home in Lugonjo, Nakiwogo Cell, Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District, on 6 July—just hours after hosting a welcome party with family and friends.

The attacker—believed to have carried out prior surveillance—allegedly scaled the perimeter wall using an electric pole and fatally stabbed both victims.

Angela Nakalema and David Golooba, both domestic workers at the Mutaaga residence, were arrested to assist with the investigation. Police say the two had left the house at around 7:45 p.m., shortly before the attack occurred.
