Police in the Albertine Region have confirmed that 19 people were killed and 13 others injured in a tragic accident that occurred at around 11:00 PM last night along the Hoima-Buliisa road.

According to police reports, the accident involved a Fuso truck, registration number UBB 639W, which was transporting market vendors from Wanseko-Buliisa Market. The truck reportedly failed to ascend a steep slope in Kigorobya Town Council, rolled backwards, and overturned, resulting in the deadly crash.

The injured have been rushed to nearby health facilities for medical attention, while investigations into the exact cause of the accident continue.

The total number of casualties reached 25,808, with 5,144 lives lost, representing a 7% rise in fatalities compared to 2023.

Authorities continue to urge road users, especially drivers of heavy vehicles, to exercise maximum caution to avoid such tragic incidents.
