Police have unveiled a detailed traffic and security management plan to guide motorists and ensure safety during the nomination of presidential candidates for the 2026 elections, set for today September 23 and September 24, 2025.

Key Routes for Candidate Convoys

Police announced that candidate convoys will use designated routes, including Yusuf Lule Road, Mulago traffic lights, City Mortuary traffic lights, Kubiri traffic lights, Bwaise Flyover, Northern Bypass, Busega roundabout, Kajjansi Flyover, Old Entebbe Road, Lweza Fuelex, and Kigo Road Junction, leading directly to the nomination venue in Lweza, Wakiso District.

Parking Arrangements

Parking inside the nomination grounds will be strictly reserved for candidates and their convoys. Invited guests will use St. Joseph’s Church of Uganda, Lweza as the official parking area.

Diversions and Alternative Routes

At Kisubi, vehicles will be redirected to Nakawuka Road to ease congestion on Entebbe Highway. At Kajjansi Flyover, motorists may be diverted to the Munyonyo Spur toward the city centre. At Lweza Fuelex and Kigo Junction, traffic from Kampala will be diverted at these points. Controlled access will also be enforced at Kigo Rehabilitation Centre and Kigo Furniture Junction to facilitate candidate departures after nomination.

Residents living in affected areas will be issued stickers granting them access to their homes.

Traffic Control Measures

Traffic officers will manage junctions and access roads, enforcing a 50-metre buffer zone around key intersections. Vehicle movement will be regulated in line with convoy movements.

The diversions will take effect from 5:00 a.m. until the close of the nomination exercise on both days.

Security Restrictions

Police confirmed that boda bodas (motorcycles) will not be allowed beyond the cut-off points. Any violations of the set guidelines will attract enforcement under existing traffic laws.

The public has been urged to follow instructions from traffic and security officers, display vehicle stickers clearly for easy identification, and exercise patience and discipline on the road to avoid disruptions.

“Plan your journeys in advance to avoid delays or inconveniences,” police advised, stressing that these measures are designed to guarantee a peaceful, safe, and orderly nomination process.
