Nominations for 2026 Parliamentary Elections underway across the country

The nomination of candidates for the 2026 Parliamentary Elections has commenced at various district Electoral Commission (EC) offices across the country.

The two-day nationwide exercise will cover 353 directly elected Members of Parliament, 146 District Woman Representatives, and 20 representatives for Special Interest Groups (SIGs), including older persons, persons with disabilities, workers, and youth.

Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, emphasised that all aspirants must present the required documents, including duly filled nomination forms signed by two registered voters, proof of payment of the Shs3 million nomination fee via the URA online system, and certified academic credentials equivalent to Advanced Level or higher.

The EC also clarified that each candidate is permitted to use only two vehicles, each carrying no more than 10 people, and must bear police-issued stickers.

Campaign harmonisation meetings for nominated candidates will be held from 24th to 27th October 2025, while official campaigns will run from 10th November 2025 to 13th January 2026.

Polling for both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections is scheduled for Thursday, 15th January 2026.
