86-year-old Gen. Moses Ali, the NRM Parliamentary candidate for Adjumani West, has been advised to rest and avoid public engagements after returning from a month-long medical leave in Germany.

Despite his absence from the campaign trail, his team has continued canvassing for support and promoting his main pledges, which include establishing a Health Centre IV in Adjumani Town and lobbying for Municipality status.

The 86-year-old retired army officer, who currently serves as the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament, has been an MP for four terms and says he still has more to contribute to national leadership.

Ali first entered government in 1971 as part of the coup that ousted President Milton Obote. He later served as Finance Minister until his dismissal in 1978, after which he fled to South Sudan.

In the 1980s, he led the Uganda National Rescue Front in an armed rebellion against the restored Obote government. When Obote was later overthrown again, Ali negotiated with President Yoweri Museveni, who had taken power in 1986. He was then integrated into the National Resistance Army, which later became the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF). Since then, Ali has held several senior roles in government.
