Police in Busoga North have arrested a supervisor with Securex Private Security Company after a viral video showed him allegedly assaulting another security guard in Buyende District.
The suspect has been identified as Joseph Warom, a Securex supervisor. He is accused of assaulting Ayub Mbadi, another security guard deployed at Kidera Sugar Works.
Police said the arrest followed the circulation of a video on social media showing Mbadi being assaulted by two men.
“Following a viral video circulating on social media showing a private security guard being assaulted by two male individuals, the territorial Police in Busoga North have arrested one suspect in connection with the incident,” police said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Warom had apprehended Mbadi over allegations that he was stealing scrap materials from the sugar factory.
Police said the alleged assault happened during the incident.
Warom is being held in police custody and is expected to face assault charges as investigations continue to establish what happened.
Police have warned individuals and private security personnel against taking the law into their own hands, urging them to report suspected offences to the relevant authorities.
“We reiterate that allegations of wrongdoing should be handled through lawful procedures and that no individual should take the law into their own hands,” police said.
