Victoria University has appointed Meera Ruparelia as its new Representative of the Directors on the University Council, taking over from her late brother, Rajiv Ruparelia.
In a statement issued on April 16, 2026, the university confirmed that Meera has officially assumed the role. It said her appointment reflects a continued commitment to the principles Rajiv stood for—innovation, resilience, and experiential learning.
“We continue to honour Rajiv’s contribution to transforming higher education in Uganda. Meera’s appointment shows our commitment to the values he championed: innovation, resilience, and experiential education,” the statement said.

The university added: “We congratulate Meera Ruparelia and look forward to her leadership as we continue shaping Uganda’s education system.”
At the same event, Vice Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga paid tribute to Rajiv, crediting him with reshaping modern education in Uganda.
“Rajiv changed not just one institution, but how education is approached in Uganda today. His legacy remains part of everything we do,” Muganga said.
Speaking after her appointment, Meera said she is ready to build on that foundation while guiding the university into the future.

“It is an honour and a responsibility to take on this role. I will uphold the values of innovation, resilience, and practical learning that define Victoria University,” she said.
She stressed the importance of keeping education aligned with global changes, especially in technology.
“Our goal is to keep Victoria University at the centre of the Fourth Industrial Revolution by closing the gap between what students learn and what industry needs,” Meera said.
University management expressed confidence in her leadership, describing her appointment as both a continuation of Rajiv’s vision and a step toward future growth.
“We are confident Meera Ruparelia will provide strong leadership as we build a responsive and future-ready education system,” Muganga said.
The university also reaffirmed its focus on delivering practical, industry-driven education that prepares students for today’s job market.
“With this appointment, we are not just maintaining continuity—we are strengthening our commitment to innovate, grow, and lead,” Muganga added.
