Veteran Ugandan singer Master Parrot is dead after being hit by a speeding motorcycle on the Kampala Northern Bypass Monday evening.

The accident happened in Masanafu as the musician tried to cross the busy road. Witnesses say the impact killed him instantly. Police later took his body to Mulago Hospital.

Born David Sifayo, Master Parrot rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

His songs Muliro and Kikompola turned him into a household name and won him a loyal fan base across Uganda.

In recent years, the former Fire Base crew member kept a low profile. Reports said he was battling alcohol addiction and mental health struggles.

His mother had publicly asked for help to get him into rehabilitation.
