Police are still tight-lipped on the high-profile corruption investigation targeting former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, and they have no update on missing Amuria District Woman MP Margaret Etilu.
The probe into Among started on 16 May 2026, on orders reportedly from President Yoweri Museveni.
Since then, detectives from CID and Forensic Services, backed by Defence Intelligence and Special Forces Command, have searched several of her properties in Nakasero, Kigo, Ntinda, and Bukedea.
Seven luxury cars, including a Rolls-Royce, were taken from the sites and are now being examined at Police Headquarters in Naguru. Security teams are still stationed at her homes.
Despite the large operation, neither the Uganda Police Force nor the UPDF has released a full statement on what was found or where the case stands.
Several people close to the former Speaker have been called to CID headquarters in Kibuli to record statements.
Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has been posting updates on X, calling it “Operation End Corruption”. He said a lot of money and property has already been recovered and will be returned to the national treasury.
“I will give a partial report soon,” he wrote, urging officials to cooperate.
But police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke says he hasn’t been fully briefed. “I don’t need to comment much on these investigations into former Speaker Anita Among… I have not been briefed on the specific charges,” he said.
He confirmed evidence was taken during the searches, but said details on charges and statements must come from CID.
Investigators are now going through phones and laptops seized during the raids. They’re tracing calls, bank transfers, and other electronic records linked to suspected corruption, money laundering, and illicit wealth.
Sources say the probe goes beyond Among to include parliamentary commissioners from the 11th Parliament and some staff.
At the same press briefing, Rusoke also declined to comment on Margaret Etilu, the NRM MP for Amuria District. She has been missing since 23 May 2026.
Reports say she was arrested that day at Among’s residence in Nakasero by security operatives. Since then, her family and lawyers have not been able to locate her.
Rusoke said he cannot speculate and promised to get more details before speaking to the media.
