Police in Kampala have recovered about 80 suspected stolen motorcycles and arrested nine suspects in an intelligence-led operation carried out in Munaku Zone, Lubya Parish, Rubaga Division.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the operation was launched following ongoing investigations into a series of motorcycle-related robberies in the city.

On June 16, 2026, intelligence reports led officers to a parking yard in Munaku Zone, where two motorcycles suspected to have been used in a robbery in Muyenga were recovered.

Further investigations indicated that the same yard was allegedly being used as a collection point where motorcycles were hired out and later used in the commission of robberies and other criminal activities.

Acting on the information, officers from Old Kampala Police Station, together with detectives and Scene of Crime Officers, conducted a detailed search of the premises.

During the operation, approximately 80 motorcycles suspected to have been stolen were recovered and taken to Old Kampala Police Station for safe custody.

Nine suspects were arrested at the scene and are currently being held as police continue with interrogations to establish the ownership of the recovered motorcycles and determine whether they are linked to other criminal cases.

Police have urged members of the public who may have lost motorcycles to report to Old Kampala Police Station with relevant documentation to help in identification and possible recovery.
