Police have arrested 82 suspects during an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected criminals in several areas of Rubaga Division, Kampala.
The operation was conducted on 14 September 2026 in Mabitto, Nateete Central B, Nanfuka Zone, Kigwannya and Busega.
According to Police, some of the suspects were found with suspected opium sticks at alleged points of sale, while others were found in possession of suspected stolen mobile phones and other exhibits.
The operation targeted individuals suspected of stealing from travellers and motorists during traffic congestion in Busega, Nateete and along the Northern Bypass. Police also targeted suspects linked to housebreaking, burglary and other related crimes.
During the screening of those arrested, Police identified Juko Muhammad, commonly known as “Kampala”, who is alleged to be a repeat offender involved in thefts from motor vehicles, particularly the removal of Toyota Harrier grilles during traffic jams.
Police said his alleged activities have been reported in several areas, including Kawempe, Bwaise, Nateete, Jinja Road and Kibuye Roundabout.
After screening and verification, 68 suspects remained in Police custody pending further investigations and court proceedings.
Police said preliminary findings indicate that some of those detained are repeat offenders who had previously served custodial sentences for similar offences before allegedly returning to the community and resuming criminal activities.
