Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested three more suspects and impounded another motorcycle as part of an ongoing operation targeting a gang accused of following people carrying large sums of money on motorcycles, attacking them and stealing their cash.
The latest arrests were made on 28 September 2026 when police intercepted three men identified as Kawooya Bashir, Kiwo Shamiru and Nuwamanya Derrick, also known as Akiram or Mavako. The suspects were travelling on a motorcycle with registration number UMA 349NF, which was also impounded.
According to police, the suspects confessed to taking part in a robbery near the American Embassy in Nsambya on 24 June 2026. They are accused of attacking a Nigerian national and stealing Shs20 million from him. The case was reported at Kabalagala Police Station.
The three arrests bring the number of suspects arrested in the ongoing operation to six. They are Byanyima Sadic, Waibale Joseph, Kisongode Ivan, Kawooya Bashir, Kiwo Shamiru and Nuwamanya Derrick.
Police have so far impounded five motorcycles believed to have been used by the suspects.
Police say they are continuing to search for other members of the gang and are investigating whether the suspects are connected to other robberies in which people carrying large amounts of money were attacked and robbed.
