The Tooro Kingdom has set September 29 as the date for the coronation of Prince Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I as the new Omukama (King) of Tooro.
The date was announced on Tuesday evening by Musuuga Charles Kamurasi, the head of the Babiito Royal Clan.
Kamurasi said the coronation date was set after the Tooro Kingdom Supreme Council confirmed Nyabongo I as the successor to the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died on August 27.
Following the confirmation, all clans, county chiefs and other kingdom leaders have been directed to begin preparations for the coronation from Wednesday.
Kamurasi said the ceremony will include a series of traditional rituals through which Nyabongo I will be formally installed as Omukama.
On the coronation day, Nyabongo I will enter the palace through Mugabante, where he will take part in a traditional mock battle. He is expected to emerge victorious before being led into the palace through the main entrance, known as Omusanga.
He will then be taken to the royal throne, where he will formally assume his position as the new Omukama of Tooro.
Kamurasi said Nyabongo I will undergo other traditional rituals during the coronation but declined to reveal details, saying they are part of the kingdom’s customs and traditions.
He called on the people of Tooro to prepare for the ceremony and participate in the coronation, which will formally mark the beginning of Nyabongo I’s reign.
