Police in Nansana have arrested two men accused of kidnapping a 10-year-old boy and demanding Shs20 million for his release.
The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Matovu Benard and 30-year-old Ssemata Christopher, were arrested after police recovered the child and a Subaru Impreza allegedly stolen during the incident.
The incident happened on 4 October 2026 at about 2pm in Senge, Wakiso Sub-County, Wakiso District.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that Matovu had earlier been called to a home in Nansana East 2A at about 9am to wash motor vehicle registration number UA 229AR, a silver Subaru Impreza.
After washing the vehicle, Matovu allegedly drove away with it, switched off his mobile phones and headed to Senge, where he is accused of abducting the child from his family’s workshop.
According to police, Matovu then transported the boy to Nsumbi Village in Kyebando, where a ransom of Shs20 million was demanded for his release. The suspects allegedly provided a bank account through which the money was to be paid.
Police launched investigations and a coordinated operation that led to the recovery of the child and the vehicle.
Matovu and Ssemata were reportedly rescued from a mob and taken into police custody.
The two suspects are being held as investigations continue into the alleged kidnapping, ransom demand and theft of the motor vehicle.
