The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the postponement of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), originally set for February 2024 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The tournament will now take place in August 2025 to allow additional time for preparations.

The decision follows assessments by CAF’s technical and infrastructure experts, who determined that while the host nations have made notable progress in upgrading stadiums, training grounds, hotels, hospitals, and other essential facilities, more time is needed to meet the rigorous standards required for a successful continental event.

Despite commendable efforts, CAF emphasized the importance of ensuring that all critical infrastructure is completed to guarantee the smooth execution of the championship, which features national teams composed of players active in their respective domestic leagues.

“The CAF Technical and Infrastructure experts, some of whom have been stationed in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, have advised that additional time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities meet the necessary standards for hosting a successful CHAN,” CAF stated.

CAF acknowledged the dedication shown by the host countries and expressed confidence in their ability to deliver a world-class tournament. The organization also confirmed that the draw for CHAN 2024 will proceed as planned on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in Nairobi at 8:00 PM local time.
